Description

Immerse yourself in the heart of the Bornean rainforest on this unforgettable 3-day, 2-night journey along the Sekonyer River. Aboard a traditional klotok (wooden riverboat), you will navigate the winding waterways of Tanjung Puting National Park—one of the world's most renowned sanctuaries for wild orangutans.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Pangkalan Bun – Kumai Port – Tanjung Harapan

  2. Check-in time Klotok at 10.30am, check-out time at 08.00am

  3. Arrive at Pangkalan Bun Airport where your guide will greet you and transfer you to Kumai Port. Board your klotok to begin cruising up the Sekonyer River. Depending on your arrival time, visit the Tanjung Harapan rehabilitation center for your first afternoon orangutan feeding and take part in a tree-planting conservation activity. Continue cruising to spot proboscis monkeys and wildlife along the riverbanks. As night falls, embark on a guided jungle walk to look for nocturnal wildlife before mooring on the river for the night.

  4. (Meals: Lunch, Dinner | Accommodation: Klotok Boat)

  5. Day 2: Pondok Tanggui – Camp Leakey

  6. Begin your morning with breakfast before heading to Pondok Tanggui Camp to watch the morning feeding at 9:00 AM. Afterward, cruise further upriver toward the historic Camp Leakey—founded in 1971 by Dr. Birutė Galdikas. Trek through the jungle interior, attend the afternoon orangutan feeding session at 2:00 PM, and learn about decades of vital primate research. (Note: The Dr. Birutė Galdikas Museum is currently closed for maintenance.) Conclude the day by relaxing on the river and watching the mesmerizing display of fireflies lighting up the riverbanks.

  7. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Accommodation: Klotok Boat)

  8. Day 3: Kumai Port – Pangkalan Bun Departure

  9. Wake up to the serene sounds of the morning jungle. Enjoy a final breakfast on board as the boat returns to Kumai Port, where your driver will transfer you back to Pangkalan Bun Airport for your onward journey.
